Surf City Bridge

Surf City’s New Bridge

The Surf City swing bridge will soon be replaced by the new high rise, wide-span bridge. Groundbreaking occurred in October 2016 and officials say the new bridge will be open for traffic as soon as September 2019! The $54 million project will be constructed with concrete at a height of 65-feet and a length of 3,600 feet long. Though the swing bridge in Surf City has been a focal point of memories throughout the past 61 years, it has caused several traffic issues with vehicles and boats due to the bridge opening and closing causing delays. The new Surf City bridge will be built to such standards of easy flow. There will be a bicycle and pedestrian lane included on the new bridge providing ample amount of space to safely travel to and from the island. Another added bonus to that: the bicycle lane will be built wide enough to provide vehicles another lane to use in case of an emergency evacuation.  At the end of each side of the wide-span bridge will be roundabouts to help with the flow of traffic. Surf City will soon say their goodbyes to the memorable swing bridge, and welcome the new bridge.

Surf City School

After several county meetings and various debates, Surf City will see a new beginning. Their very first school! It has been approved for Surf City Elementary & Middle School to begin construction. With the growth in population Surf City has seen recently, a new school is just what the city needs. Overcrowding in the schools take away from students learning and comfortability. With a new school, teachers can have more one on one interaction with each student to help them learn and grow further in their education. This could give new possibilities for real estate growth and local business traffic as well. Giving parents less commute times to schools and shopping is a major plus!

Surf City groundbreaking occurred on December 16, 2016 for news reporters and residents to witness. The school is estimated to be completed by 2017.

Surf City 231 Acres for Sale

Surf City growth possibilities are endless and exciting with 231 acres up for grabs!

According to an article in the Wilmington Business Journal, Cape Fear Commercial real estate firm has recently released news of attaining the listing for a 231 acre tract of undeveloped waterfront land on the mainland in Surf City.  The land is situated to the north of NC 210 and NC 50 before the swing bridge and has major potential to bring exciting expansion to the area.

The tract sits immediately adjacent to the center of Surf City where commercial businesses are currently thriving.   Additionally, there are ongoing plans by the NCDOT to build a high rise bridge over the ICWW which will further enhance the desirability of this land for future development.   The thought is that with rezoning, a combination of single family and multifamily homes along with commercial space will be the most likely use for this prime land.

A tract of land this large in a booming waterfront community like Surf City is a rare opportunity and we expect to see some exciting new developments as we move into the busy new year.
